Doing All Right

I was almost jumping off of the table when the doc started pushing on my belly and my right side. My liver scar is big, it split open just after the surgery due to infection. It re-healed wider and deeper and has since split open and been packed twice due to the infected abscesses I had last spring. Because of its enormity, the nerves in the surrounding skin have been pretty much destroyed. I have no sensation on my right side at all… so, if anyone comes near it I jump and flinch. I don’t even touch it! and I can’t bare looking at it. The same goes for the scar from my other two operations - straight down the belly - no sensation. Anyway, the doc pushed and prodded and I was squirming!! I reeeeeeally hated it!!

I reckon my back ache is caused by the way I hold myself…along with my ileostomy bag I protect my right side with quite a defensive posture. No wonder I walk all lopsided!

I’ve really painted a pretty picture… whatever! I don’t like being pushed and prodded. I do not like it!!
Apart from that, I’m doing all right :)

I'm Holly Webber, I'm 26 years old and in January 2010 I was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer at the age of 23yrs. After 2.5 years of aggressive treatment, combining chemotherapy with three major surgeries, my cancer has now been diagnosed as terminal. In January of this year I embarked upon a clinical trial in the hope of slowing down the progression of secondary disease on my liver and lungs. It was unsuccessful. I'm now officially receiving palliative care from the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. I created this page so that I can blog my story, with the aim of helping others and inspiring my readers.
